HERALD, California — Residents and property owners in unincorporated Herald can submit comments through Friday, November 20, 2026, on Sacramento County’s updated disaster-risk reduction plan. The county is reviewing a draft multi-jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan covering floods, drought, wildfire, severe weather and other risks.
How the community can participate
Sacramento County says the 2026 update is intended to replace the previous 2021 plan. The public draft, appendices, participating jurisdiction annexes and feedback information are available through the county’s Storm Ready pages. The county lists a November 4 public meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at South Natomas Community Center, 2921 Truxel Road, and a planning committee meeting November 5 from 9 a.m. to noon at 11080 White Rock Road, Suite 200, Rancho Cordova. People who cannot attend may submit written comments through the listed channels.
What Herald households might raise
In rural areas, community members may wish to describe concerns about evacuation routes, long emergency-response distances, communications during power outages, local floodplain conditions, wildfire access or protection of agricultural property. These are possible topics for residents to evaluate, not a claim that a specific Herald road or parcel has a newly identified hazard.
Federal approval of a mitigation plan helps participating agencies maintain eligibility for certain disaster mitigation grants. The county expects to submit the final plan to state and federal agencies in December 2026; that is a planning target, not a final approval announcement.
Comment deadline: November 20, 2026. Sources: Sacramento County announcement, October 27 and public draft and instructions.
