HERALD AREA, California — Birdwatchers from Herald and nearby rural Sacramento County communities can register for a Saturday, November 14, 2026, River Walk Bird Survey at Cosumnes River Preserve. The preserve lists the outing from 6:45 a.m. to noon, beginning at the Visitor Center parking lot.
What the survey involves
The event page identifies Jim Rowoth as the guide. The route follows the River Walk Trail for approximately four miles round trip and gives participants a chance to observe birds in wetland and riparian habitats during the fall migration period. The organizers recommend water, snacks, binoculars, mosquito repellent and rubber boots because trail conditions may be wet or muddy.
Interested participants are asked to register by email with rowoth@sbcglobal.net. The listing does not specify a fixed participant limit, so check directly whether places remain and whether any mobility restrictions or weather changes apply.
Location and visiting rules
The Cosumnes River Preserve Visitor Center is at 13501 Franklin Boulevard, Galt, not inside Herald itself. Residents traveling from Herald should allow time for the early start and confirm directions rather than assume the event meets at a nearer trailhead. The preserve is a day-use area; pets are prohibited except service animals, and camping is not allowed.
Managed by a partnership of conservation and government organizations, the preserve supports wetlands, grasslands and river ecosystems important to migrating and resident birds. The November survey is a particular guided outing, distinct from general self-guided visits.
