HERALD, California — Residents organizing a family reunion or neighborhood gathering can reserve the picnic shelter at Herald Park, a small Sacramento County park along Highway 104. County Regional Parks describes the park as 2.5 acres with a covered shelter, picnic tables, barbecue grills, a playground and horseshoe pits.
How to plan a gathering
The county’s site lists capacity for the reservable picnic shelter at up to 100 guests. Its general group reservation rules say groups of more than 40 must reserve ahead of time, and all group reservations must be made more than five days in advance. Organizers should also ask whether amplified sound, bounce houses or other special activities require additional permissions or insurance.
The county’s published fee pages do not display one consistent Herald Park rental amount: the park-specific description has shown $50, while a current general event-fee listing shows $75. Do not assume either figure is the final price. Request a current quote and confirmation of available dates from Regional Parks before paying or advertising an event.
Who to contact
Regional Parks directs reservation requests to Picnics@SacCounty.gov or 916-875-6336. Its online reservation instructions also cover event approvals and vehicle parking fees. Residents can use the county’s park-status page to check whether the park is listed as open, especially after storms or maintenance.
